Shantanu Roy is Professor of Chemical Engineering Indian Institute of Technology - Delhi, New Delhi, India. He holds a B. Tech. from IIT Delhi (1994), and an M.S. (1996) and D. Sc. (2000) from Washington University in St. Louis, USA, all in Chemical Engineering. Prior to joining IIT Delhi as full-time faculty in 2004, Dr. Roy was employed in Corning Incorporated in New York.

Prof. Roy's research interests include computational flow modeling of multiphase reactors, non-invasive imaging of multiphase flows, and process intensification through monolithic and structured reactor systems and microreactors. Specifically, he has worked over two decades in the use of radiotracers and radioactive isotopes for flow monitoring in multiphase reactors, for which he has also recognized as a Technical Expert for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He has worked extensively with oil and gas companies, on topics related to process intensification, reactor performance enhancement, reactor optimization, coal to liquid fuels, and more recently on decarbonization projects.

Prof. Roy has more than 100 original research publications to his credit, 6 patents, and over 200 peer-reviewed conference presentations, of which more than 20 are invited keynote / plenary talks in recognition of his work.

Prof. S. Roy is Institute Chair Professor at IIT Delhi. He has served as the Associate Dean Academics during 2016-19, and Dean - Academics at IIT Delhi during 2019-22. He is a recipient of DuPont Young Faculty Award (2004), and a distinguished alumnus of Washington University (2022) for his technical work. Prof. Roy has served on the technical committees of several international conferences, has co-chaired two major international conferences, as well as served on the editorial boards of several international technical journals. Prof. Roy has been serving as chairperson and member of several committees of the Government of India.

Prof. Roy was made Coordinator of the then-fledgling IIT Delhi - Abu Dhabi project in September 2022 and oversaw the interactions with the Abu Dhabi Government and the successful rollout of the new campus and academic programs. He was recently (January 2024) appointed as the first Executive Director of IIT Delhi - Abu Dhabi.
